Collection: Leopold Survage
(1879-1968) Russian-Danish-Finnish
Leopold Survage was born in Finland and was trained to be a classical pianist. However, after suffering a severe illness at the age of 22, Survage rethought his career and attended the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. Survage created abstract compositions by using color and movement to evoke a type of musical sensation. His work expresses his innate fascination with symbols and mysticisms, using geometric structures and repeating groups of symbolic elements to create his images.
