Born in 1935 in Sacramento, California, Ramos learned painting early on under the tutelage of Wayne Thiebaud before earning undergraduate and graduate degrees from Sacramento State College in the late 1950s. In the early ’60s, Ramos painted poster-like images of female comic-book superheros and then began incorporating branding into his works. His popularity grew with the pop art movement in the 60s, and was known as a figurative painter specializing most often in paintings of female nudes.
