Collection: Albert Marquet
(1875-1947) French
Marquet was a painter associated with the Fauvist movement. He was born in Bordeaux, and in 1890, moved to Paris to attend the École des Arts Decoratifs. In 1905 he exhibited at the Salon d’Automne. At the end of 1907, he stayed in Paris and dedicated himself, together with his lifelong friend Henri Matisse, to a series of city views. From 1907 to his death, Marquet alternated between working in his studio in Paris, many parts of the European coast, and North Africa. In 1947, he died of a sudden illness in La Frett-sur-Seine.
