It was created two years after the death of Mourlot to commemorate his contribution to the Arts. This poster is a variation in color of an original lithograph signed and numbered in an edition of 150. The black and white lithographic plate was created by the artist and the color variation by the master printer.
Flowers, along with clowns and and landscapes, were some of Buffet's favorite subjects. Buffet was quoted as saying: “I want you to have a dialogue with my paintings by pure affection. Painting is not something to talk about or to analyse; it is something just to feel. A hundredth of a second is enough to judge a painting.”
this is the edition of 1,000 proofs before lettering (text). There was a further 2,000 proofs with the text: "Hommage a Fernand Mourlot"
