Chute de Barcelone (B&W) by Le Corbusier, 1962
Artist: Le Corbusier
Medium: Lithograph From "Cortège..."
Dimensions: 28 x 40.5 in
Arches Paper - Good Condition A
This lithograph is from portfolio of six different images entitled "Cortège" (Weber cat. p. 90) It is signed in the stone and was printed and published in 1962 at the Mourlot Studio in Paris. This series was created by Le Corbusier in 1960 during one of his many stays in Chandigarh (India).
The color plates were produced in an edition of 300 and the Black and White plates were produced in an edition of 150 individually. In addition, there was a signed and numbered edition of 50 portfolios. All the lithographs were printed from the same plates.
At the end of his life, Le Corbusier almost never painted, dedicating himself to collage, drawing, gravure, lithography, tapestry work and sculpture. In these late works, much influenced by the collage technique, one finds solid colours superimposed over the lines of the drawing, without filling the whole of the shapes, nor covering the whole of the surface. The lines are more liberated, in contrast to the rigour of his earlier works.
