The Woodstock Poster was originally commissioned by the Woodstock Book Shop and Woodstock Chamber of Commerce. It was subsequently purchased from the artist during 1969, in its entirety, by Kennedy Galleries NYC (Kennedy Galleries represented the me at that time). This serigraph was printed in lithographic form (all existing prints hand-screened; created with lithograph crayons and tusche) in 1968 at the Dorfman Studio from an edition of 50 with multiple Artists' Proofs (numbered). This particular lithograph is an Artists' Proof. The Woodstock Poster appears in the Woody Allen Movie "Play it Again Sam"
From the Artist:
"I was assisted in my Woodstock studio with the printing and production of the poster, by my friend and neighbor, Bob Dylan. That summer, we had discussed the upcoming festival which neither of us would attend. After I finished the art on the separate color screens, Dylan joined me in my Byrdcliffe studio and assisted in the printing of each poster as well as the hanging of each, for drying, on clothes lines strung around the studio."
